For the Air Jordan 9 Retro Pinnacle, Jordan Brand decided to create a two-pack inspired by the profession Michael Jordan took up when he retired from basketball in 1993.
As previewed last week, the shoes in the collection feature premium leather uppers inspired by actual baseball gloves and the team Jordan suited up for—the Birmingham Barons. Each pair features glove-style woven lacing along the side panels, while Jordan's baseball number '45' is embroidered on the heels.
In another interesting development for this collection, it appears that both colorways will release with baseball card-style packaging. This was first hinted at by Twitter user @_PO2345.
Pinoe77, the source of the first images to hit the internet, made a similar claim on Instagram.
"The pair is gonna be wrapped in plastic and when you buy them you either get these, or the pair in a tan colorway," he said.
So, it sounds like there's a possibility that like baseball cards, you won't know which colorway you've purchased until you open your pair. If that's the case, it's a smart way to get collectors buy multiple pairs. As of now, the release date hasn't been announced, but we'll continue to follow the story here at Sole Collector.
