Though much of what we remember about Ken Griffey Jr.’s career is tied to his time in Seattle, there was a 9-year stretch in Cincinnati that had its ups and downs, but is still a significant part of the Hall of Famer’s story. Nike is remembering Griffey Jr.’s tenure with his hometown team by delivering a Reds-themed take on his first signature sneaker, the Air Griffey Max 1.
Aligned with the team’s grey and red threads, the “Reds” Air Griffey Max 1 is styled in grey-toned nubuck, boldly offset with red hits in key areas such as the cross-strap, pull-tabs, and various branding hits. White also finds a home on the ‘24’ lettering, Swooshes, and midsole.
Expect the “Reds” Air Griffey Max 1 to release sometime in early 2023. We’ll update this post with specifics when they’re announced.
UPDATE (03/02): According to updated launch calendars, the “Cincinnati Reds” Nike Air Griffey Max 1 will finally release on March 30.
